Scorpio Full Moon, May 7, 2020, 5:45 am CT
Happy 187th birthday, Johannes Brahms!! A couple weeks ago, I heard Brahms’ “Violin Concerto in D Major, Op 77” on the radio. As is so often for me while listening to Brahms, a deep and broad expansion began emanating from my heart center. I made a note to check on his chart when I got home, certain that I would find some strong Taurus placements. What a lovely surprise to find that he not only was a Taurus, but that his birthday this year aligns with the Scorpio full moon!
The sun is conveying the energy the energy of Taurus. This year, Taurus season began April 19th and will conclude on May 20th. The new moon in Taurus occurred on April 22nd. At 17 deg Scorpio/Taurus 20’, the moon is reaching its fullness just a couple of days after the sun moved through the midpoint of Taurus, 15 degrees. 15 deg Taurus is also the midpoint between the Spring Equinox (0 deg Aries) and the Summer Solstice (0 deg Cancer). This is a very potent time, a time brimming with the energy of Taurus and intensified with the energy of Scorpio.
Taurus is the first earth sign and it is ruled by the planet Venus. As I write this, I just see green, green, green! Growth is wanting to happen, bare feet are itching to feel new, sprouting grass beneath them. Flowers are waiting to be planted, adding their colors to the palette of the soon-to-be blossoming outdoors. Money, banking, and physical resources are ruled by Taurus as well, which is another type of green. In the physical body, the throat is ruled by Taurus. Because of this connection, I’m usually not surprised to find singers and musicians with some emphasis on Taurus or strong connection with its ruler, Venus.
From Taurus’ rulership of the throat, we can glide into its energetic co-rulership (along with Libra) of the heart chakra, the Anahata. The phrases “speaking from the heart” and “my heart was in my throat” come to mind. The above image is one of my prints from a series entitled “My HeartThroat” in which I explored this connection.
There is a sense of the six directions emanating from the heart chakra. The six-pointed star is a symbol commonly associated with this energy center. Above, below, front, back, right, left… whole, complete, and expansive. The heart center is the meeting ground for the three lower and the three upper chakras. It is at the heart where we find our home.
At your heart home, are you at ease? Are there any niggling self-doubts or self-worth issues lurking? Welcome thoughts, feelings, sensations which may be arising connected to any of these doubts or issues. Allow yourself to stay with them and breathe into, around, and through them. This Taurus sun is shining upon you and circulating into, around, and through the dimensions of your heart.
The moon is carrying the energy of Scorpio, the polarity of Taurus. If Taurus is the smell of freshly-cut grass and all things good and simple, Scorpio is the compost pile of clippings, its fetid smell unpleasant but alchemical. Scorpio and its ruler Pluto symbolize the deep dive into the subconscious which may be arduous but ultimately necessary and transformative. The two energies are opposite sides of the same energetic stick. What would the garden be without the blessed compost?
The Death tarot card is associated with Scorpio’s energy. Drawing it always gives one a little initial jolt. But, this isn’t usually a literal death. It is representative of the need for closure, a time for ending something. With the moon here, intuitively, instinctively, we can feel that this ending is approaching but we may have experienced difficulty and unwillingness in acknowledging it. However, without an ending, how can there be the promise of another beginning?
What needs to be released within you at this full moon? What needs to die so that you may begin something else? What needs to be valued more? How does it feel when you allow yourself to truthfully acknowledge what it is you want to tend in your garden? How does it feel when you imagine yourself living that truth, in this present moment?
As the super full moon of Scorpio shines above you, maybe some dulcet melodies will assist in elevating your spirits and saturating your heart. The key signatures of G major and E minor are associated with Taurus. Db major and Bb minor are associated with Scorpio. Here are links to Brahms’ “Symphony Number 4 in E minor” and Brahms’ “Intermezzo, Op 177, No 2 in Bb minor”.
Oh, and the Brahms piece which started this whole mind whirl? Here’s the link to that. I believe I began listening to it at about 15 minutes into the first movement. At about 16 minutes 40 seconds, there is this unbelievably beautiful melody! Enjoy!
